I feel like I’ve spent the last week packing my life up, what with moving out of my student house in Falmouth, going up to Norfolk for a few days to see my extended family, then back to London to finally sort out all the things I need this summer.
And with less that 24 hours to go until my flight leaves for NYC, I am still packing. I’ve packed, unpacked and repacked multiple times, added a few items and got rid of a few things, and I think I’ve finally decided on the right combination of what to take with me for these three months away.
So here it is. My Summer Camp Packing List:
Day Pack/Small Rucksack:
- MacBook Pro & charger (I’m making films and editing photos as part of my job, so this is an essential)
- iPod touch & headphones
- Small 500GB hard drive (lots of movies for the plane!)
- Book
- Notebook & pen
- Folder of important documents
- Cameras (one small compact digital and my DSLR)
- Purse
- Make-up bag & spare contact lenses (it’s a long flight!)
- Glasses
- Phone (& international SIM)
- PASSPORT!!!!
Backpack/Main Bag:
Clothes/shoes:

- Shoes x3 (flip flops, converse trainers & waterproof/walking shoes)
- Hoodies x2 (one zip-up, one over-the-head)
- Lightweight jumper
- Cardigans x2
- Boardies
- Shorts x4 (including khaki pair for staff uniform)
- Trousers x3 (2x jeans [one more like jeggings] & khaki pair for staff uniform)
- T-shirts x6
- Vest tops x5
- Shirts x2
- Dresses x2
- Swimming Costume & Bikinis x3
- Underwear (enough for 10 days…there’s a weekly laundry service at camp but it’s always good to have spares)
- Pyjamas x2
- Waterproof jacket
- Tracksuit trousers/lounge pants (see, I’m speaking like an American already!)
Wash-bag:
- Shampoo
- Shower gel
- Deodorant
- Toothpaste
- Toothbrush
- Razor
- Hairbrush
- Moisturiser
- Various lady things
- Suncream & After-sun
- Face-wipes
- Insect repellent (& bite/sting relief)
Extras/Random:
- Contact Lenses (enough for 3 months…this is what’s taking up all the space!)
- Travel Towels x2
- Torch (& spare batteries)
- Handbag
- Aquapac (waterproof casing for digital camera)
- Chargers (phone/ipod) & plug adapter
- Item for staff auction (shhh, it’s a secret)
- Sleeping bag liner (for after camp, when I go travelling…I don’t really want to carry around a sleeping bag, and most hostels provide bedding anyway)
- Little 8GB USB stick – to transfer stuff between my mac & the camp PCs (and visa versa)
- Water bottle
It seems like a lot, doesn’t it? Now you know why I’ve had so many issues trying to get it all into my bag. But no matter. If it doesn’t fit, I’ll just have to get rid of more stuff…it’s not like America doesn’t have shops. And I’m also trying desperately to leave a bit of space to buy some things, like I know I will, but I think that’s not really going to work out!

Now away I go! This time tomorrow I’ll be in the air! I’ll try and keep you all posted with how I get on as regularly as possible.
Yay! I feel soooo much better now I’ve read your pack list! Pretty sure I’ve got everything now, though I only started packing a couple of hours ago!! See you in 12 hours 🙂 x
haha, Yeah I’m sure I’ve forgotten something, but i can always pick stuff up when we get there! Altho there’s def not room for anything else in that bag…it’s the bloody shoes! I might just leave them behind in August 😛
