Hostel Review: Beary Nice! By A Beary Good Hostel, Singapore

A spin off from their first hostel just around the corner, Beary Nice! by a Beary Good Hostel in Chinatown is honestly an incredible place to stay. It’s quite small, with only three dorms (each with roughly 10 beds in), but the atmosphere is fantastic. You are greeted with a warm and friendly smile and check in is made oh so simple. Soon enough you’ll be all set up with your key card and ready to settle in.

The dorms are fairly large, and even with 10 beds in (a mixture of bunks and singles), it felt plenty spacious enough. Each bed comes with its own light, plug sockets and big locker (you will need your own padlock though). For this we paid just over £10 each, an absolute bargain for what we got in return. The room did get quite hot during the night but there are fans on the ceiling if you can bothered to get out of bed to turn them on!

In the reception/lobby area there is a comfy sofa and a few chairs, a stack of magazines and city guides, three netbooks (free to use) and a large widescreen TV, as well as heaps of DVDs…all free to use whenever you like. There’s even a Nintendo Wii if that’s your kind of thing. On the other side of the room is the kitchen, with cupboards full of plates, bowls and cups, a fridge (which you can put your own stuff in), microwave, toaster and water boiler. Breakfast is included in the price of the room and is available between 6:30 and 10:30 in the morning…you can choose from toast and jam/peanut butter or a selection of cereals. There is also free tea and coffee available throughout the day.

The hostel is exceptionally safe and clean…you need your key card to get in the main door and into your dorm room, and no shoes are allowed inside…only ‘bear’ feet! There are two bathrooms, one for boys and one for girls….I can’t speak for the boys, but the girls’ bathroom was clean and tidy, with two showers and one toilet (there are more toilets upstairs too). They also offer self-service laundry, but the best thing off all…the free (and fast) WiFi! This place is definitely one to stay at if you’re ever in Singapore!
