Hotel Review: The White Inn, Nong Khai

We decided that after slumming it a bit at Trekker Camp in Chiang Mai, we’d splurge and treat ourselves to a nice hotel in Nong Khai, one that we knew would be clean, safe and have hot water! And to be honest it wasn’t even that expensive…about £10 each, which is roughly what we spent on Smile Society hostel in Bangkok.

So after looking online for a bit, we chose the White Inn, a newly built hotel, right in the centre of Nong Khai’s main attractions, and really close to the Mekong River and all it has to offer. Upon arrival we definitely weren’t disappointed with what we found…a lovely, clean, open reception area, wonderful staff and an even nicer (massive) room. We also had a TV, mini fridge, wardrobe, and pretty large bathroom, with a gorgeous shower…we were in heaven, especially after the general grime of the previous hostel.

The hotel is within 5 minutes walking distance of the river front and all the restaurants and bars that run along it, as well as the Tha Sadet market, which sells pretty much anything you can think of…clothes, food, shoes, knives, slingshots, you name it, they’ve got it.

Included in the price of our room was free WiFi (something we’re finding very important in our hostel/hotel choosing process) and complimentary breakfast…always a bonus! We only stayed one night, but it was such a pleasant experience that I definitely recommend it to anyone who finds themselves in Nong Khai anytime soon.
