After spending four hours on a bus from Vientiane, we were keen to quickly find somewhere to dump our bags before heading out to explore Vang Vieng. We soon came across Sisavang Guesthouse, a cute little place set just back from the main road. At first they offered us a large room, with three beds (2 doubles and 1 single) and two bathrooms for 100,000 Kip, but after a few minutes deliberating the price, they then offered us a slightly smaller room for about a third of the price. So it seems that the trick is to act like you’re leaving to look for somewhere else and they’ll all of a sudden have a cheaper room.
The room was pretty standard – it had two beds (a double and a single), one teeny weeny bathroom (the shower is literally on top of the toilet), a fan and a TV (with terrible picture quality) – but it was clean enough and the beds were pretty comfy. Best of all, there were no cockroaches (one place we’d looked at had them scuttling down the walls!), and it is in a fantastic location – right in the centre of the main street, close to all the bars and restaurants, and only a few minutes walk from the river.
The staff at Sisavang are lovely and always eager to help and suggest places to go and things to do, and there is also free WiFi (but only downstairs in the lobby/lounge area, which is a great place to just chill and hang out, and maybe meet a few fellow guests). Overall it was a great place to kick off our stay in Vang Vieng.
