Come Hell or High Water

This is it. I am actually leaving. Right now. I’m sitting in Heathrow Airport, waiting to board my plane to Mumbai and then onto Bangkok. This time tomorrow I will be at my hostel, with my friends, at the very start of my year long adventure. And I am absolutely pumped for it. I’ve been planning this trip for about 4 years now, and it is so surreal that the time has finally come.

And yes I know what you’re thinking…what about the floods in Thailand? Well, I know they’re serious, and have caused massive damage and devastation. And I know that the FCO are advising against all but essential travel to the country, but as I said, this trip has been a long time coming, and I wasn’t going to let it pass me by. I’ve talked to a lot of other travellers, some of whom are in Thailand at the moment, and they’ve all said as long as we’re careful and pay attention to news reports then we’ll be fine. Our hostel is in the financial district, which is so far unaffected by the flooding, and is expected to stay safe and dry. The only thing we may have to adapt to is how we get into Cambodia in a few days time – whether we can go by land like we had originally planned or whether we’re going to have to get a plane I don’t know…it’s something we’re not really going to know until we get out there.

But to me that’s all par for the course on a travelling adventure! See you on the other side.
